| Springer Spaniels |
18 to 20 inches (46 to 51 cm) males
17 to 19 inches (43 to 48 cm) females
50 to 55 lb (23 to 25 kg) males
35 to 45 lb (16 to 20 kg) females
Black or liver (dark brown) with white markings or predominantly white with black or liver markings; Blue or liver roan; Tricolour: black and white or liver and white with tan markings, usually found on eyebrows, cheeks, inside of ears and under the tail. Any white portion of the coat may be flecked with ticking.
An English Springer Spaniel is first and foremost an upland flushing dog that will retrieve to hand.
| Clumber Spaniels |
17 to 20 inches (43 to 51 cm)
55 to 85 pounds (25 to 39 kg)
Predominately white in colour with lemon, brown, or orange markings around the eyes, and at the base of the tail
The breed has been used to hunt pheasant and partridge, in both small packs and alone. It is well-suited for work in upland hunting in dense cover, and although the Clumber is rather slow in the field compared to other spaniels, it is a quiet worker with a fine nose and good stamina. The broad muzzle of the breed allows it to retrieve a variety of game.

| Sussex Spaniels |
13–15 in (33–38 cm)
35–45 lb (16–20 kg)
Golden liver-coloured coat which is unique to the breed -there have been examples of both black and sandy coloured.
They tend to have a natural ability to quarter in the field, have excellent noses, and can be used to retrieve, given training. The breed is the only spaniel to howl once a game's scent is picked up.
